Gifted young anesthesiologist Matt Robbins had a near-disastrous episode of infidelity and on-the-job drug use as an intern but is now thriving in his new job at Central Penn Anesthesiology and beginning to believe that life with his young family could be sweet—if he can just pay off his massive school debts.

When Matt discovers that a recent partnership offer comes with an inordinately huge buy-in requirement, he confronts Central Penn’s imposing founder, Dr. Russell Blackman, who promises to investigate the matter. But Blackman fears the nosy young doctor is pulling on threads that might expose not only the extortionary partnership terms but other, more sinister plans afoot at Central Penn, including a quid-pro-quo arrangement with a ruthless U.S. Senator, Brad McNally, currently in the midst of the toughest re-election battle of his career. These powerful men devise a plan to keep Matt sidelined by any means necessary, whether using his checkered past against him or silencing him forever.
